Must see places
Convento Nossa Senhora do Desterro

Mount Fóia
Mount Fóia is part of the Serra de Monchique (Monchique Mountains) range, with an eight-mile hike to reach its summit at 2,959 feet.
Igreja Matriz de Monchique
Near the centre of the town, you can find the Parish Church, better known as Igreja Matriz de Monchique. This pretty church was built in the 16th century and reconstructed after the earthquake of 1755. It is well preserved. From the outside, the doorway stands out. Inside you can find a nicely carved statue of Jesus on the cross.
Igreja de São Sebastião
Situated on the southern side of town, from the outside it looks closer to a fortress compared to the florid decoration of other churches in the region. This harks back to the era when Portugal was ruled by the Muslim kingdoms of North Africa and local Christians felt threatened in practicing their faith.
Parque da Mina
The Parque da Mina is a theme park with a genuine theme. Centered on an old iron ore mine the park provides an an entertaining view of the workings of the mine along with a range of fun activities in the surrounding park.
